Hi, Rachael Roberts. Nice to meet you.
I’m from Korea so I’m not a native English speaker.
I’ve been learning English for about 3 years.
I just wanna get advice about studying English.
(I wanna get a job and live in America, so I need to enhance my English skills.)
Since last year, I’ve read graded readers regularly. And recently, I started to read authentic novels.
To me, graded readers are not difficult. Even level 5 or 6 books too (not very easy but not difficult).
That’s why I started to read native speaker’s book. But there are many unknown/hard vocabulary and expressions in authentic books. They are difficult but fun to me.
How should I do? Just keep on reading graded readers and authentic books? Or there’s any great texts for me?
I watch TV shows and movies with English subtitles or without them. And sometimes, I listen to the radio or podcast.
Actually, I don’t understand perfectly, I think I understand 70~80% or 90% sometimes.
I just wanna know if I wanna enhance my Listening ability, should I watch and listen to something without scripts or subtitles? Or with them is fine?
<Vocabulary?
I make a notebook or vocabulary journal and note vocabulary when I read, listen to something. But actually, I don't know how to make it well…
I just write a definition, pronunciation, examples, bold phrases or expressions in dictionary, thesaurus and collocations.
Is there any tips to record my notebook?
And which vocabulary should I record first? (There are many words which I don't know when I read authentic books.)
I try to talk with my boyfriend everyday. We usually talk for 20 minutes. I wanna practice speaking in English by myself but I don’t know how to do.
Also I chat with him and international friends in English everyday.
Still, my English is not perfect. I sometimes make grammar mistakes… and occasionally mispronounce the word too…
Is there any tips to enhance my English?
I hope I can get some advice from you.
It’s great if you give me advice which I didn’t ask to you.
Thank you for reading my comment.
Have a great day! Bye bye 🙂
